April Shows
April was a busy month, but I didn’t do a good job of capturing moments. But, my good buddy and collaborator Jim McDermott to the rescue! In a addition to being a stellar drummer and my homie in our new jam project called Unstruck, he’s a crafty tech guy and has things set up to record all our shows! Here’s the first release from the archive, captured at Murph’s Irondequoit Pub on April 19th. Give Unstruck a follow on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube!

Beat Tapes
I’ve been dripping out beat seeds here and there. Just little nuggets of inspiration, with perhaps some potential for further development. I like the idea of publishing even unfinished work. You never know where they can go and who may want to respond with their own ideas. Here are two recent ones.
Brian Ayers
My man Brian released his third single (see April for first two). A touching, earnest, Americana ballad. I think you’ll love it.
What I’m Listening To:
St. Vincent
I mentioned the amazing singles dropped by Annie Clark leading up to her full-length St. Vincent album. It is just stellar. Not a skip in the bunch. And JMJ, damn, he just turns everything he touches to gold, with his bass playing and sound design. BTW, not take anything away from Annie — she self-produced this album and she knocked it out of the park
What I’m Watching
St Vincent Interview
OK, OK, I’m bullish on St. Vincent right now. I admit it. But, you know I’m always enthralled with such thoughtful artists and artistry. If it’s purposeful, it’s never “over-thinking”.
May Shows
Hope to see you out there!
May Birthdays
Shout-outs to May’s batch of bass legends:
May 10: Bakithi Kumalo
May 12: Greg Phillinganes
May 28: Lee Sklar
